H.L. HUNLEY ATTACK
Named for her financier, Horace Lawson Hunley, the H.L. Hunley of the Confederate Navy claimed a place in history by becoming the first submarine to sink an enemy vessel. Built in Mobile, Alabama, the Hunley was station at Charleston Harbor during the Civil War. Paving the way for undersea warfare, it's launching was proceeded by two other submarines that were less successful, but still technological leaps in Naval history.
